Flying a drone commercially in Uganda requires clearance from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, UPDF, SFC and potentially UWA depending on your location. It's a complicated process, but we make it easy. Here's how we handle that on your behalf.
Anyone flying a drone commercially in Uganda needs the appropriate authorisation from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA). We have the permits and are UCAA-certified to fly commercially in Uganda.
That means an international production doesn't have to arrive in Uganda and start figuring out the local aviation process from scratch. Tell us where you want to fly and film, we'll tell you what needs to happen next.
Yes, it's possible. But bringing your own drone into Uganda is a separate process from simply flying it once you arrive. Temporary import is granted for up to 30 days, with the option to extend once for another 30 days on top of that. There are additional requirements around the pilot, insurance and import clearance. We can arrange all of it.
If you're bringing your own drone, tell us before you travel. We'll help you understand exactly what needs to be arranged.
Some locations are restricted or require additional permission, like areas around Entebbe Airport, central Kampala, embassies and certain government locations among them. National parks can also require a separate permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), on top of the relevant aviation authorisation.
The paperwork might be correct, but you still need to know where you can actually fly — that's where local knowledge matters.
Give us a little notice. Once you're working with a licensed local pilot, authorisation for a shoot typically takes 2–6 weeks, depending on the location and requirements. Some productions are straightforward, others need additional approvals. The earlier you tell us where you want to fly, the better.
